New Leaf Acupuncture
Jean-Philippe Rüegg
Naturopath with a Federal Diploma
in Traditional Chinese Medicine TCM
When someone comes to me, I first see a person seeking support. Not just a symptom, not just a diagnosis. For me, that is the starting point of every treatment.
My work begins with listening. I want to understand what a person is dealing with—physically, but also in terms of stress, life circumstances, and inner tension. Often, symptoms do not occur in isolation. Pain, exhaustion, sleep problems, or inner restlessness are frequently part of a larger picture.
Chinese Medicine offers a perspective that continues to fascinate me. It views the person as a whole, asking not only where a problem lies, but also why a system has fallen out of balance.
I practice acupuncture. At the same time, for me, the treatment is more than just inserting needles. It’s also about creating an environment where a person can settle and feel at ease: the conversation, the atmosphere, and the attention given during the treatment.
My approach has developed over many years.
I am a naturopath with a Federal Diploma in Traditional Chinese Medicine TCM. I completed part of my training at a hospital for traditional medicine in Vietnam. Working in a large clinical environment has shaped my view of medicine – and deepened my trust in careful, precise, and humane treatment.
Twenty years of Kung Fu have also influenced my work. It has trained my sense of the body – from within, not just from theory. Movement, tension, posture, and presence are therefore not abstract concepts for me, but something directly experienceable.
I have designed my practice in the same way I work: calmly, precisely, and with attention to the whole. For me, atmosphere is not decoration. It is part of the treatment.
I work at New Leaves, our multidisciplinary practice in Zurich that I co-founded. Under one roof, we bring together various therapeutic approaches from psychology, bodywork, and complementary medicine. I also provide treatment at the Paracelsus Recovery Clinic, where I support people dealing with complex health and personal challenges.
What is important to me in my work is to create a calm, clear space where conditions are taken seriously – and where the person behind them is not lost.
Methods
Various methods of Chinese Medicine are used in treatment, combined depending on the situation.
These include traditional body acupuncture, ear acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, and electroacupuncture. Medicinal mushrooms therapy can also be incorporated as a complementary treatment.
One focus is on working with conditions where the mind and body are closely interconnected.
Another focus is on treating the musculoskeletal system. Sports acupuncture combines classical acupuncture with a precise anatomical understanding to release tension and support mobility.
The Practice
The premises are located in a historic building in a central location, within walking distance of the Kunsthaus and Stadelhofen train station.
